FORDING AND RIVER CROSSING in MADAGASCAR

1. Fording and river crossings to the Tsingy de Bemaraha (west): self drive + guide required

Photo of river crossing by ferry. The dirt and sand roads between Morondava and the Tsingy de Bemaraha on the West coast are easy. There are two fording and river crossings by ferry in the two villages of Belo-Tsiribihina and Bekopaka on the west coast. The crossing costs 40,000 ariary (about 10€) per car one way on the Belo-Tsiribihina river and 10,000 ariary (about 2,5€) per car on the Manambolo river in Bekopaka (Tsingy de Bemaraha area). The two river crossings close at 6:00 PM. That is why, the route between Morondava and the Tsingy de Bemaraha must be done in 2 days. If not, you have to leave at 5:00 AM to try to arrive before 6:00 PM in the village of Bekopaka (Tsingy de Bemaraha) because the river crossing closes at 6:00 PM. The fording section must be done by our guide.

2. Fording and river crossings on the southwest coast: self drive + guide required

A Guide is required in this off road part (between Morondava and Tulear) because there are a lot of fording and river crossings where the car must drive in more than 1 meter of water level. The fording section must be done by our guide.
There are only one  river crossing with a ferry on the Bevoay river at the southwest. The price of this river crossing by ferry is 40 000 ariary per car (about 10€). Between Morondava city and Ifaty village in the south west coast, there are 10 road tolls. Each road toll cost 5000 ariary (about 1,3€). Please note, the water level of the river depends on high and low tide. Check the moonlight to know the tide level. The water level is low if there is not moonlight in the sky. There is no gas station between Morondava and Tulear by the west coast and a gasoline jerry can of 20 liters is supplied with the car.


SELF DRIVE TO ISALO NATIONAL PARK

drive.mgAt Isalo national park near the Ranohira village at the south, entrance and exit of the park are not the same for the most famous national park tour. You must drop off the rental car in the parking of the park office. After you have to take a shuttle with the guide of the park to go to the park entrance. You will pick up the rental car at the end. The guide of the park can arrange this shuttle transfer.
